how to prevent diabetes?
How to prevent diabetes has been at the forefront of diabetes treatment for decades.
It is widely understood that the best form of treatment is prevention. This is especially true since there is no one hundred percent cure at the moment. Scientist is still working at a cure. At the moment the best way to prevent the onset of diabetes is through diet and exercise. This is considered to be lifestyle changes. If diet and exercise does not work then oral medication my be included as part of the treatment to prevent diabetes In a study of diabetes prevention it was found that people with pre diabetes symptoms could prevent, delay, or even reverse the onset of diabetes type two. This could be done by making a little lifestyle change with the introduction of diet and regular exercise on a daily basis. This was proven in the Diabetes Prevention Program. The diabetes prevention program was a landmark US study of 3234 people with pre diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance which found that diet and exercise reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by fifty eight percent (58%). This can be achieved by doing only thirty (30) minutes of moderate walking, yoga or other physical activity daily. The physical activity improves the body’s ability to use insulin and process glucose. The diabetes prevention plan found that participants who lost a modest amount of weight (approximately seven percent (7%)) through dietary changes (diet low in fat and calories). The increased physical activity sharply reduce their chances of developing diabetes. It is also important to note that some people have a predisposition to type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes has to do more with genetics and heredity. However, it is essential that the diet and exercise program be followed because there is still a risk of them developing type 2 diabetes which could lead to type 1 later on.
