What is Pre-diabetes?
What is pre-diabetes? That is a question that all healthy non diabetic people should ask their health care professional. With diabetes affecting so many millions of people worldwide and the numbers are growing, it is important to be able to protect your health. Your health should never be like a lottery where you say; I am ok now so I won’t have to do anything. The thing is when you live according to an unhealthy lifestyle your health gets a little bit worst each day. The opposite is true also when you live according to a healthy lifestyle your health gets a little bit better each day or it remain at its optimum. Pre-diabetes is synonymous with elevated levels of blood sugar. According to the health care professionals when your blood sugar levels are higher than normal (between the ranges of 100mg/dl and the 125mg/dl) but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes you are said to be suffering from pre diabetes. The blood sugar levels or blood glucose levels of the average person are normally within the target range of between 70mg/dl and 99mg/dl. At the 100mg/dl to 125mg/dl range it is thought that our body has started the march on the dangerous road towards diabetes and all its chronic complications. At this point every effort should be to start taking steps toward reversing the onset of this dreaded disease. In other words elevated blood sugar levels of above the normal range on a consistent basis seem to be the leading cause of diabetes type 2. Actually, it is widely believed by the health care professionals that diabetics who are diagnosed with diabetes type 2 actually went through a period of up to ten years suffering from
pre-diabetes symptoms
unknowingly before eventually being diagnosed. The problem is that when your blood sugar or glucose levels are high on a consistent basis you are at an increased risk of developing other complications, especially cardiovascular diseases. Your risk is even higher when your blood sugar levels remain high on a consistent basis. Everything should be done to ensure your blood glucose levels remains in the normal range. The urgency should be seen especially when the blood glucose levels are high to stop the progression towards the onset of type 2 diabetes and the complications of diabetes that would follow. According to the American Diabetes Association, Recent research has shown that some long-term damage to the body, especially the heart and circulatory system, may already be occurring during pre diabetes. Therefore the time to start taking care of your health is NOW. This condition has also been closely linked to obesity, poor diet and an unhealthy lifestyle. There are certain other factors that would cause an increase risk of developing diabetes. These are as follows; being overweight, aged over 40, having a family history of diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Everyone should start taking care of their health. I guess for health’s sake. Other Articles:
