Exercise / Physical Activity

As a result of numerous studies carried out it was identified that by doing only thirty minutes of exercise or physical activity per day you will reduce the level of bad cholesterol (low density cholesterol) and increase the level of good cholesterol (high density cholesterol)in your blood.

Exercise also lowers your risk of heart disease, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Physical activety is also helpful to prevent atherosclerosis in diabetics.

Exercise does not have to involve going to the gym. It could simply be just dancing while you do your house work.

If you are a bit more sophisticated you could do tai chi, salsa or simply join a top end gym.

The important thing about doing exercises is that you should make it fun.

If it is fun you will enjoy yourself and be willing to continue doing it and receiving the benefits.

Lose excess weight

Any weight loss is good if you are overweight (as long as it is not too rapid a weight loss).

In a study, of overweight pre-diabetic participants, called the Diabetes Prevention Program it was revealed that participants who lost 5 to 7% of their body weight cut their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58% (this weight loss was in association with a healthy diet of course).

It was also revealed that weight loss was the main predictor of reduced risk for developing diabetes. How does this work?

It is believed that weight loss and physical activity lower the risk of diabetes by improving the body’s ability to use insulin and process glucose.

Losing weight has other benefits like making you look fabulous, feel great and even improve your self confidence.
