Early signs of hyperglycemia

The early signs of hyperglycemia are signs of poor blood glucose control. It is dangerous to the health of diabetics if their blood sugar levels rises too high.

When the level of glucose in the blood rises too high it will result in a condition called hyperglycemia.

It may be as a result of eating too large a portion of food, taking insufficient amounts insulin in relation to food eaten, doing less than usual exercise or even minor illnesses.

Minor illnesses increase blood sugar levels as the body tries to repair itself.

The early hyperglycemic signs include:

• Excessive thirst (Polydipsia),

• Frequent urination (Polyuria),

• Excessive hunger (Polyphagia),

• Fatigue,

• Blurred vision,

• Fatigue,

• Weight loss,

• Slow healing wounds (cuts, scrapes, bruises, etc.),

• Dry mouth,

• Dry or itchy skin,

• Impotence (male), and

• Recurring infections in women (vaginal yeast infections)

If these early signs and symptoms of hyperglycemia are ignored more serious diabetic complications may result.

Hyperglycemia can increase the likelihood of complications of diabetes, such as damage to the kidneys, eyes, heart disease, circulation problems in the legs, and erectile dysfunction in men and other problems.

If any of these hyperglycemic signs or symptoms exists then the diabetic needs to act quickly before the symptoms get worst.

Another important note is that if any of these signs and symptoms is apparent it is important that you consulting your healthcare professional if you are not diagnosed with diabetes just to rule it out.

This is to ensure that you do not suffer from diabetes complications unknowingly.

If the condition is caught early then treatment would be more effective.
