Early signs of hypoglycemia
Early signs of hypoglycemia are the flip side of hyperglycemia. Hypoglycemia occurs when the blood sugar level decreases too low, that is below 70mg/dl. Hypoglycemia is even more severe than hyperglycemia. Diabetics who do not manage their diabetes well could fall in a diabetic coma and lose consciousness. Hypoglycemia may be caused by simply missing a meal, taking too much insulin for the amount of food eaten or doing excessive physical activity. The early signs and symptoms of diabetes hypoglycemia include: • Headache, • Confusion, • slurred speech, • Abnormal behaviour, • Loss of memory, • Numbness, • blurred vision and • Seizures (fits). The hypoglycemic person may also experience trembling, faintness, and excessive sweating.
Hypoglycemia is simple referred to as hypo. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of hypo you should eat something to increase your blood sugar level. Eat something sweet and fast acting like glucose tablets in the beginning then eat something a bit more long lasting. The best advice is to talk to your medical team to get accurate information as to what to do in case of hypoglycemia. It is important that you tell a friend or family member what to do in the event of you suffer a hypoglycemic shock are unable to help yourself.
