The type 1 diabetes symptoms

Type 1 diabetes symptoms can develop quickly over days or weeks. If signs and symptoms of type 1 diabetes are not recognised early the first sign may be ketoacidosis coma.

The classic first signs of this chronic disease may be mistaken for other childhood illnesses especially at the onset in children. For your benefit I have listed the first signs of diabetes type 1 symptoms.

The classic Symptoms of Diabetes type 1 are:

• Exceptional thirst – as the body tries to replace the fluid it is losing.

• Dry mouth

• Frequent urination – as the body tries to flush out the excess glucose in the blood.

• Unexplained weight Loss (weight loss despite eating more and more food)

• Fatigue – as a result of the glucose remaining in the blood instead of in the cells where it is needed for energy.

• Blurred vision – as the small blood vessels being damaged as a result of the high blood glucose levels

• Slow healing Cuts or sores – the damaged blood vessels and the plaque build up in the arteries cause poor circulation

If type 1 diabetes is not treated early the body will produce chemicals called ketones.

The build up of ketones (ketoacidosis) in the blood which will cause additional symptoms such as:

• Vomiting,

• Stomach pain,

• Rapid breathing

• Dry skin and mouth

• Flushed face (red face or blushed face)

• Fruity odour on breath

It is very important that the signs are recognisable to prevent the complications of diabetes. If diabetes has been diagnosed then treatment can commence.

Treatment of type 1 diabetes at the moment will involve insulin therapy. However, there are a few promising new treatment with stem cell that could be available in the new future fingers crossed.
